Being a father in the context of confinement was one of the most difficult things Alejandro “Poto” Fernández faced. His daughter Mia was born in 2014, but at that time “Poto” was 5 years away from regaining his freedom.

After passing through different prisons, he was transferred to the San Martín prison where he learned about the Spartanos reintegration program: he began to play rugby, pray the rosary on Fridays and trained as a physical trainer thanks to a training he provided. @Megatlon in alliance with Fundación Espartanos.

When she regained her freedom, she had the tools to face a new life, but she was still missing something very important: building a bond with her daughter. Today he tells us his story:

“When I regained my freedom, Mia was already 5 years old. It was very difficult to approach her. Having my daughter tell me that she didn't want to be with me was the worst beating I had ever received in my life. That she did not recognize me as her father made me feel pain throughout my body that she had never experienced.

Over the years we started to get to know each other and I got closer to her. Now everything is different. Mia is just 9 years old and she knows that she is my love, that she is my everything and that nothing and no one will change the love I feel for her. I wish her a happy future and that she never has to go through what I went through.”

For 4 years, “Poto” has been working in @somosfiter as a coach and continues playing rugby, but with the free Spartans team. “I am proud to be who I am, to be part of the Espartanos Foundation, to be part of Espartanos Rugby Club because thanks to them I am what I am. I am very grateful to Megathlon y fiter because they also believed in me.”

“I thank God and the Virgin because it is very gratifying to know that life gives back to you if you respond with nice things. That's why I give my best in everything I do."

Like “Poto”, today more than 100 Spartans are working with dignity, being an example for their families. Today we congratulate all fathers on their day, especially those who are rewriting their history! ❤
